Eagles acquiring safety Kevin Byard trade with Titans

 The  Philadelphia Eagles' complicated general manager is acquiring rising star Kevin Byard in a deal with the Tennessee Titans, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported, according to a source familiar with the deal. 
 
 According to Rapoport, the Eagles will send backup Terrell Edmunds - a former first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers - along with 2024 fifth- and sixth-round picks in exchange for Byard. The Titans then announced the deal on Monday evening. 
 
 It's a big blow for the Eagles, who are competing in the second division this season and needed help at safety.Philly swung into action, adding the two-time first-team All-Pro and former steals leader to the defense that defeated the  Miami Dolphins on Sunday night.


Byard, who released a statement thanking the Titans organization and fans, was not at his best early in the season in Tennessee, but he is a dynamic safety for the '039 Eagles; secondary. The Philadelphia player knows how to run and cover well. In 120 games over eight seasons with the Titans, Byard recorded 27 interceptions, 63 passes defended and 674 tackles. 
 
 The 30-year-old safety is one of two NFL players  with more than 600 tackles and more than 20 INTs since 2017 (Jordan Poyer), and his 27 picks rank second in the NFL, according to an NFL (Xavien Howard). Study. . Byard leads all safeties with 59 passes defended since 2017.
 Byard will team with Reed Blankenship, who is dealing with an injury, to form  Middle Tennessee State's safety duo behind Sean Desai's defense. 
 
 After losing Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in the offseason, the Eagles' safety staff lacked versatility and playmaking ability, so Roseman looked for a potentially game-changing player to fill the void. The deal came after Philly signed star  A.J. had committed.Brown from Tennessee  in the 2022 draft

 trade. The Trade reports that 2-4 Titans were traded before the October 31 deadline. Tennessee began the day with just six  draft picks, including just three  before the seventh round (first, second, fourth and three seventh). General manager Ran Carthon needs to replenish the coffers to prevent the Titans from completing a resource shipment next week.
