Arsenal defender William Saliba rose to block Mykhailo Mudryk and the Ukrainian's head deflected onto his opponent's hand.Referee Christopher Kavanagh awarded a penalty after a VAR review.
Mudryk, still in attack, scored Chelsea's second goal three minutes after the break, sending the ball into the top right corner of the net over the stranded Raya.
There was debate about whether he wanted to cross the ball or shoot at goal, but the cheering crowd who had seen their team fight for points in recent months agreed.
It was a nervous evening for the goalkeepers as Raya and Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez made mistakes in a high-energy duel.
Sanchez's sloppy positioning led to Arsenal's goal in the 76th minute through Declan Rice, who deflected the ball past Chelsea defenders and sent it past the goalkeeper and into the open goal.
Rice, a former Chelsea junior, said he had to decide quickly what to do with the ball.
“Instead of hitting the ball with my shoelaces, I had to spin it. Knowing whether to pass the ball to someone or receive it was a quick instinct. he told the BBC.
Encouraged, Arsenal advance and Chelsea are forced to defend deep in the final quarter of the game.Substitute Trossard then silenced Stamford Bridge in the 84th minute when he scored a brilliant finish from Bukayo Saka's brilliant cross to secure a point for Mikel Arteta's side.
They return to second place, 21 points ahead of leaders Manchester City, while Chelsea are in ninth place with 12 points.
